February 2006
Dear Member and Friends of Kansas Baptist Church ,

The month of February was a special month at Kansas Baptist Church. We had two special events for the month.

Our Valentine Social was well attended considering the weather.
That turned out great for the kids! It snowed and several of them went outside and had a snow ball battle. The puppet show was great and enjoyed by all.

We also were priviledged to have the Corinth Baptist Church youth Drama Team with us at the social. It was a very inspiratual time of praise and worship. The church is enjoying the fellowship room in the Family Life Center.

On the 26th our guest for the evening service was the "I AM" Drama Team from Mt. Carmel Baptist Church of Cordova. The attendance was good and afterwards we had snacks and fellowship.

We started last Sunday putting an insert in the bulletins to aquaint all of us with the Upward Basket Ball sports program. I will also be including information in our newsletter. We have a donor who is going to donate goals. As soon as we find the type best suited for the gym.

The gym is large enought to have two game going at the same time. There will be several areas where volunteers will have part in this program. Marie and I will be going to a workshop in Little Rock, Arkansas, July 28,29 to be trained in setting up the program. At this time our church will be registered in this Nation wide program. We will need at least two other people from the church to go with us. Upward Basketball is a Christian recreation-sports ministry.

Kansas Baptist Church is exploring the possibility of starting the program this year. There will be bulletin

inserts informing us about the ministry where the emphasis is "every child can be a winner" regardless of their athletic skill.

Is there a need for sports and recreation ministry?

Recent numbers show millions of 6 to 11 year old children participated in team sports in the U.S. More than 7.5

million played basketball, 7 million played soccer, 3.8 million played football and 1.4 million participated in cheerleading.

Why children quit sports: "I was no longer interested. It was no longer fun. There was too much pressure. The coach was a poor teacher. The coach played favorites.

What are these children saying about organized sports?
37% Wished no parents watched them play. 41% Indicated that they've awakened in the middle of the night worrying

about a game.

69% Indicated that they prefer a coach who puts more priority on fun than winning.
71% Said it wouldn't matter if no score were kept in the game.
74% Said they had seen out of control parents at their game.
75% Have dropped out of organized sports by age 13.
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL: The theme of this years Vacation Bible School is "Arctic Edge." Along with the Bible

lessions the children will be learning about the culture of the people living in the Arctic. Our VBS will be held June 5-9. We are depending on you to volunteer as a workers or a teacher. Reaching children is important in this day with all the negatives influences that they a bombarded with each day. Will you be a part by volunteering?

Project Update: The baseboard has been installed around the walls of the Fellowship and Education department of

the Family Life Center. The floor is ready to be cleaned and polished. We are receiving bids on the Kitchens cabinets and hopefully in a month or so we will have them installed.

Financial Report: Our donations for the Family Life Center for the month of February was $1,852.59. We now have

in the Building Fund as of February 28, $11,895.09. As of January 31, we owe First National Bank $22,992.93. Since the project began we have raised to date $211,344.22. As always we thank all of you who have given to this project. It could not have been possible without your willingness to give to the Lord.

Thank you for your trust and faith in this Church to use the gifts wisely for His glory.
